0 - Published May 21, 2013 by in High School

Both Division I and Division II of the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association are down to the semi-finals; the final four. Show-Me Lax will preview each game.

John Burroughs vs. Lindbergh
Wednesday, May 22 – 5:30 pm

Here are the side by side comparisons for the two teams:

JBS

  • Overall Record:  16-1
  • Current Winning Streak:  15
  • Goals Per Game:  14.1
  • Goals Against Avg:  5.4
  • Goal Differential Avg:  +8.7
  • LaxPower Power Rating:  91.76

Lindbergh

  • Overall Record:  11-6
  • Current Winning Streak:  6
  • Goals Per Game:  8.3
  • Goals Against Avg:  5.4
  • Goal Differential Avg:  +2.9
  • LaxPower Rating:  82.80

To get right down to it, Burroughs has a very impressive athlete running its midfield. Chris Wetzel (#24) has been the player to beat for most opposing teams. Although he is not leading the team in points, he is leading the Burroughs midfield in PPG. Wetzel (who has committed to Colgate) is averaging 4 points per game, is 210 pounds (as a junior) and 6′ 5″ (although some say he’s closer to 9 stories).

While Wetzel is very good, a lot of credit should go to the Burroughs’ attack (i.e. Matt Gilman and Jack Maritz) and head coach, Troy Hood. Coach Hood has done a very good job at preparing his team to be ready for the challenge. Expect to see fundamental lacrosse led by poised players.

Lindbergh is not going to roll over by any means. In 2013 the Flyers beat 3 playoff teams in the regular season. They also beat Clayton in the first round of the MSLA DII Playoffs by a score of 9-4. Talk about an impressive turnaround,  Lindbergh lost to Clayton 10-5 in the regular season, and will need to see a similar type of improvement against Burroughs, who they lost to 14-10 during the regular season.

Show-Me Lax is going to give this one to Burroughs. JBS is going to be too tall, too fast, too strong, and too disciplined for the Flyers.

Show-Me Lax Prediction: John Burroughs wins 15-6
