Both Division I and Division II of the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association are down to the semi-finals; the final four. Show-Me Lax will preview each game.

Saint Louis University High vs. De Smet Jesuit
Wednesday, May 22 – 6:00 pm

While Christian Brothers College High has punched its ticket to the Championship game, their opponent will be whomever wins this game. De Smet has put together one of the most impressive regular season resumes in recent memory. Not only have they gone 12-1 in league play this spring, but the Spartans are also riding a 15 game winning streak. That’s right, Sparta has not seen defeat in 54 days –  an impressive mark in any sport.

SLUH on the other hand is still defending their MSLA DI Championship Title from last season. However, the Jr. Billikens have struggled more this season than in 2012. Going 9-4 in league play, SLUH suffered a surprise set back against Lafayette on April 24 (10-7). Just before that, SLUH lost their regular season meeting against De Smet, falling 5-4 in OT. Other SLUH loses this season were to MICDS and O’Fallon. Don’t count the Jr. Bills out just yet. Just last year, SLUH went 21-2 and put together a resume better than De Smet’s. While SLUH lost some of it’s talent, many of their current players know what success is.

Here are the side by side comparisons:

De Smet

  • Overall:  17-3
  • Current Win Streak:  15
  • Goals Per Game:  8.7
  • Goal Against Avg:  4.7
  • Goal Differential Avg:  +4.0
  • LaxPower Power Rating:  96.07

SLUH

  • Overall:  13-6
  • Current Win Streak:  7
  • Goals Per Game:  8.4
  • Goal Against Avg:  5.4
  • Goal Differential Avg:  +3.0
  • LaxPower Power Rating:  94.18

The numbers indicate it will be a low scoring game. Both teams average under ten goals a game, and allow about 5 goals against per. It might not be too far fetched to think this one will end up 6-4 or 7-5. While SLUH is a tough, disciplined team, Show-Me Lax is going to give this one to De Smet.

Show-Me Lax Prediction: De Smet wins 10-6
